Happy Anniversary to....us!

It's officially seventeen years since we 'incorporated' in NJ. We look forward to another seventeen and hope you'll stay on the drive along with us.

Projects keeping us awake at night include a new residence on Long Beach Island, roofing work at the Hoboken Terminal, planned renovations to our own offices in Martinsville, fifty townhouse units in Warren, renovation of a building to become a wireless retail store, and several kitchen and bath projects.

We are working to be more active and informative in our YouTube postings and hope you will stay tuned.

PS: NJ will adopt the IECC Energy Code Changes for duct leakage/tightness in January 2013.

Moisture Management in your Building

Spring is coming and that means rain. For the past several years, we've been altering our construction detailing and job-site practice requirements to address moisture in buildings.  Moisture can enter a building from several sources:  moisture during construction,  rainwater leaks, humid air, moisture that is generated inside the building, off gassing of new material, and vapor diffusion through the building envelope.  No building is water proof - the water, instead, is managed and the 'weather barrier' assemblies are detailed and constructed so that they are able to dry out.

If you've got moisture issues, a whole-building approach is needed to determine causes and remedies - the HVAC system, the exterior wall construction, a building's location, and even the interior finishes, all factor into managing moisture in the building assembly.   There is no definitive date yet, but when the International Green Building Code is adopted - moisture control issues during construction and preventive measures beyond construction are required to be implemented.  Why wait?
